Hi, my name is Rachel, and I’m a skincare addict. Who am I kidding? You probably already know that, especially if you follow me on Instagram. I give myself facials twice a week, have a multistep daily skincare routine, and also sheet mask several times a week. But over the last year, I’ve been traveling a lot more, and adapting a skincare routine that is both suitcase and airplane-friendly has been key for when I’m not at home. I’ve found little ways to simplify my skincare routine when traveling to make sure I’m still giving my skin the TLC it needs without sacrificing precious carry-on space.
Here are my tricks. How do you guys switch up your skincare routine when traveling?
You know when you’re waiting in line at Ulta or Sephora, and there are all of those little sample sizes of things. Even though they’re meant to be for trying the product, I actually save them for traveling. That way I’m not having to compromise on the products I really love, and I don’t have to transfer product into those shitty travel bottles that somehow seem to never fully seal. This is also a fun way to enjoy the products that are high-end, because a mini version is much cheaper.
Sample Size Favorites:
While I love a nice spritz of toner across my face after cleansing to balance out my skin’s pH, this one isn’t a make or break for me, so I just skip it altogether when traveling.
Products that do more than one thing are a godsend when I travel. Favorites include a moisturizing eye balm from Evanhealy that I can swipe under my eyes and on my lips, a mask that doubles as an exfoliant (I’ve been loving the Serengeti Papaya Ultra Illumination mask from Belle Bar), and a Purlisse’s BB cream with SPF 30 that evens my tone while moisturizing my skin.
Multipurpose Skincare Favorites:
Any extra space I can have for shampoo, contact solution, and other necessary liquids is best, so I’ve found some good skincare products over the past year that come in solids. Instead of a liquid face peel, I opt for a travel size of peeling pads. I also often use a powder face mask that you add water or honey to when you use it or sheet masks, makeup remover pads instead of my normal liquid version, and a moisturizing bar soap rather than shower gel or cream. There are a lot of really great soaps that are great for your skin out there these days, and they last a longgggg time. I’ve actually switched from liquid to bar at home recently, too.
