You know what’s hilarious? Before I started working out regularly, I wouldn’t be caught dead in any type of altheisure, even a sweatshirt. I literally owned zero sweatshirts. But as I started hitting the gym several days a week, I quickly realized I need to develop a good set of workout outfits. And that they didn’t need to look frumpy. Those outfits are what sometimes even motivate me to go to the gym. Putting on something that makes me feel good sets a tone for the rest of the day. Being a petite and curvy girl, finding workout clothes that fit, are flattering and also don’t tug or fall during an intense session is a little difficult, but I’ve shopped a lot of brands over the last couple years, and these are my favorite workout clothes that have become my tried and trues.

I base all of my choices on three major factors:

  1. Is it stylish enough to wear outside of the gym?
  2. Does it flatter my figure and make me feel good?
  3. Does it hold up during a heavy workout?

If it doesn’t check off all of those, sorry….girl, bye!

The first of my faves to shop at for workout clothes is Fabletics. I stumbled into their VIP membership when buying some pieces for Rich as a Christmas gift. Fast forward two years later, and I’m hooked on their high waisted leggings (most go above my belly button–something I REALLY appreciate) and basically all of the badass styles in their Demi Lovato collection.

I mix and match pieces from Fabletics all the time. I’m in love with my mesh wrap top (which is really cute over a tank or full coverage sport bra). Their stylish sweatshirts with special details like cutouts and and cropped styles are great, too. I also like that they carry a range of cute sports bras that vary in support level. Their sizing is great for anyone with curves, as they tend to run a little roomier. Customer reviews on their site are extensive, so I know if I need to size up or down depending on the item of clothing.

Another favorite for street-worthy styles is Will Lane (pictured in this post). I found out about this small, but quickly growing NYC brand through a friend, and was initially drawn in by their totally unique styles and their mission: “For the modern independent woman who is transforming, evolving, and striving to stay on top of her game.” I’m all about supporting local brands run by women, and I mean, talk about some female empowerment and motivation!

What I really love about the Will Lane pieces is they can totally be worn outside of the gym. I’ve been wearing the bomber jacket in these photos to amp up non-gym outfits, too! The materials feel like you’re wearing nothing, but are supportive at the same time…if that makes any sense. And I love their monochromatic color palette, which helps with easy mixing and matching on the days when all the laundry hasn’t been done.

You may think Adidas runs a little on the pricier side, but they have a lot of really affordable stuff. I love using their unique pieces, like their body suits, to punch up basics in my workout wardrobe. I pair them with my regular street clothes. Their athletic cuts flatter my curvy, yet muscular build.

Terez is my go-to for punchy leggings with fun prints. I also love that the waist band on them doesn’t cut into my stomach. It lays flat and feels really comfortable when working out.

Lastly (and I’m gonna get real here), is JOLYN because, well, I don’t get camel toe in their leggings. If you’re someone who likes the waist of your leggings to sit higher, and have pulled up your leggings to do just that, you know that camel toe is real. I’m not trying to lift and separate that part of my body. The reason why CT doesn’t happen with JOLYN’s leggings is because they don’t have a seam in the crotchal region (very scientific terminology, I know.) Why more athleticwear companies aren’t doing this, I don’t know. This company is also another that really empowers women. They even have a tab on their menu dedicated who women who inspire.
