Bloggers’ lives sometimes seem super glamorous. You make your own hours, you’re doing photo shoots on the reg and dashing off to events every evening. And from the point of view we show, I can totally see why someone may think it’s all fun and little work. While it definitely is a lot of fun to do what I love as a job, it’s the behind-the-scenes schlepping that you don’t see. Meetings all around the city during the day and at least one event a night. Not to mention trying to sneak in some work at a coffee shop on my laptop in between. All that requires an outfit that’s chic & comfortable and a handbag that stylishly gives me the option to schlep all my shit everywhere. We’re talkin’ laptop, iPad, notes, and (LBH) at least 10 different lip glosses.

Let’s talk about bags for a second. Unless you’re in college or live in a commune, it’s not cute to lug your stuff around in one of those canvas cross body monstrosities. And yes, it’s possible to carry all that you need for the day in something that looks great. I like a bag with structure and a lot of compartments, like the JEMMA Girl Work Bag. It’s big enough to fit my laptop, has a pouch for my iPad, and also has a cute little spot to stick business cards on the back of the bag (my favorite feature because I used to always be digging around for one like Mary Poppins in her satchel when someone asked for it).

On days that are packed with meetings and I know I’m not going to have time to run home before an event, I like to layer so I can switch up the look for evening. However, in the summer my deodorant knows better than anyone that I need to wear stuff that breathes (sorry blazers).

A long sleeveless vest is a great option to throw over a strappy dress that bares the shoulders (and maybe a little bit of the girls). It’s got drama, is appropriate for meetings with clients, and I can shimmy it off later in the night. And a comfy pair of heels are a must. At 5’2″, I never underestimate the power play of feeling taller. If you let me fool you into thinking I could realistically wear these heels all day, by all means, please keep viewing me as that perfect. But the truth is, I usually pack a set flats or flatforms in my bag, too. Gotta be real.
